Con-way Truckload Driver Reaches Three-Million-Mile Mark
George Cook Becomes the Company's 10th Driver to Achieve the Milestone
JOPLIN, Mo., and ARLINGTON, Texas - April 6, 2009 - Con-way Truckload, a
full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today
announced that a 10th company driver has achieved the elite career milestone
of three million miles of dedicated service. George Cook of Arlington,
Texas, was recognized for his accomplishment at an April 4 ceremony at the
company's Joplin, Mo., headquarters.
"Reaching three million miles of driving is an impressive accomplishment -
it's the equivalent of traveling the circumference of the Earth 120 times,"
said Herb Schmidt, president of Con-way Truckload. "After three million
miles with us, George's dedication to safety and customer service speak for
themselves. We are proud to have him as a Con-way Truckload driver."
Cook drove the three million miles between 1986 and 2009. A professional
driver for 31 years, he has driven for Con-way Truckload for 23 years and
typically drives a route between Dallas and El Paso, Texas. The company has
previously honored Cook with awards for reaching one and two million miles,
as company driver of the month for four years in a row and as company driver
of the year for the past three years.
"You don't get to three million miles without a lot of other people helping
you," Cook said of his achievement. "I love my country, my family and my
job."
Cook currently lives in Arlington, Texas, with his wife of 29 years, Tani.
The couple has six children and 10 grandchildren. In his spare time, he
enjoys flying, fishing and bowling.
